Gabrielle Barnby, Scrivener for Orkney 2025 Island Games, is inviting members of the Isle of Wight community to contribute to the Island Voices collection – a special publication celebrating the upcoming Orkney 2025 Island Games.
This project seeks new writing about island life, capturing authentic voices and diverse experiences across the islands. Selected pieces will be published in a book gifted to participants and volunteers during the Island Games and will also be available online.
Inspired by Orkney’s creative heritage, the Island Voices collection aims to bring together varied perspectives to enrich the literary landscape. Some inspiring Orkney submissions are already available for viewing on the Orkney Museums website: https://www.orkneymuseums.co.uk/island-voices-submissions/
Submissions can be in any language and should be no longer than 250 words. Writers are invited to submit their work via the online form on the Orkney Museums website or directly through this link: https://www.orkneymuseums.co.uk/island-games-arts-project/
The deadline for submissions is 26th May 2025.
A special online gathering is scheduled for 15 July 2025, where writers will have the opportunity to share their work with a global audience. Additionally, for Isle of Wight community members traveling to Orkney, an in-person launch event will be held on 17 July 2025 at the St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall.
