Profile
My abstract expressionist paintings and drawings, sometimes incorporating selected detailed objects or subjects, are often influenced from growing up on the Island exploring coast, plimsoll, plumb and horizon lines. There’s a levelling effect to look as far as the eye can see. I also incorporate walking, pottery, sound, writing and collecting as part of my practice. My compositions are processes of 'looking to be still' or 'to distil'; whichever medium, form or subject is chosen. I occasionally create installations combining the individual processes. I often work on major paintings over many years and look to complete one major commission per year. I create minor works alongside these and a small selection of prints and pottery for sale.
I currently work between my studio in Oxfordshire and from my van, rucksack, laptop or coat pockets on the Island. I am hoping to move the magority my art practice to the Island full time over the next 2 years. Alongside my work as an artist, I am the director of Adumbration Arts Ltd, a small company created to help others make and share art by providing affordable studio space, public engagement opportunities and art tuition.
