Jean G-Owen is the founder of Naked Figleaf Press, an independent publisher dedicated to championing Isle of Wight writers and artists The press is guided by its straightforward motto, We give a fig — a commitment to publishing well-crafted, thoughtful books that reflect the richness of the Island’s creative community.

Jean also runs Figmentum Books, a new imprint open to writers beyond the Isle of Wight.

With over thirty years’ experience in publishing, academia, and the arts, Jean has worked as a university lecturer, academic editor, researcher, and creative writing facilitator. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies and Humanities, and her own writing spans poetry, short fiction, and lyrical essays exploring women’s lives, history, and place. She is writing her first novel.

Under both imprints, Jean publishes books that balance craft, clarity and creative ambition. She is also the editor of The Figlet, a twice-yearly magazine celebrating writers and artists connected to the Isle of Wight.

Jean plays an active role in the Island’s creative scene, organising events such as the In Her Own Words, Words at the Wheatsheaf, Figgy Gigs, and other literary gatherings. She is committed to supporting writers at all stages and helping them bring their work into the world.

Jean is available for collaborative projects, commissioned pieces, workshops and literary events.
