Home-Grown Creative Careers: Inspiring the Next Generation

Creative Island works to champion and connect the Island’s cultural sector through its two core programmes – the IW Creative Network (IWCN) and the IW Cultural Education Partnership (IWCEP). Together, these initiatives support both the creative workforce of today and the next generation of talent coming through our schools and communities.

One of the IWCEP’s key priorities is helping young people see how what they learn in the classroom connects to their future – and to show that a creative career is not only achievable, but thriving right here on the Island.

The Creative Careers Profiles project shares the real stories of people who grew up and went to school on the Isle of Wight, and who’ve gone on to forge successful careers in the creative industries – from artists and designers to film-makers, writers, and musicians. Many still live and work here today.

These brilliant profiles offer powerful, local examples of how talent can grow from the Island and reach far beyond it. They include reflections on creative journeys, practical advice, and insights into how individuals built their businesses and careers.

Originally designed as a classroom resource for schools and teachers, this growing library is also a fascinating read for anyone working in the creative sector – a reminder of the impact of creative education, and the importance of inspiring the next generation to see creativity as a viable, rewarding path.
