A new Annual Survey for artists & artworkers has just been launched by Visual Arts South West (VASW). The sector currently has very little data or information about artists and art workers based in the South West, their needs, experiences and working situations.
It is really vital that we get some solid information so that we can help to advocate for better conditions and investment in visual arts. The data from this report will be useful to the IW Creative Network as evidence for cases for investment. So long as artists and artworks on the Isle of Wight fill out the survey, we should be able to see trends in our area, e.g the diversity of artists and the barriers that artists face on the Isle of Wight.
The survey will allow us to:
- better understand the needs & experiences of creatives in the South West
- advocate for artists and artworkers and ensure that the wider national sector is informed and up to date
- gather key data around pay, employment & funding
- make a case for more investment in visual arts in the South West
- understand & articulate the make-up of the region, who lives and works here
- give a clear picture of the diversity of the region & barriers to inclusion.
We want to support informed decision making, and this report will help to set priorities for the future of visual arts in the South West region.
To make this report as useful as possible we need you to complete the survey and share with your fellow network of artists and artworkers.

Deadline to complete the survey: 31st October 2023
Thank you!
